Songmerchants presents…
JACQUES BREL: THE RAGE TO LIVE
“What d’ you do when you are faced with a
wall? D’ you go round it or climb over it? Me, I
go through it with a pickaxe.” Anthony Cable is
Jacques Brel, the iconic entertainer, who hurled himself
against life, writing, performing, drinking and smoking
through countless sleepless nights and passionate affairs.
Brel’s brilliance captured! Cable sings Brel’s
songs with remarkable passion in both French and English.
- London Evening Standard
The Brel of Judith Paris’s incisive script is fuelled
by determination. This ever striving, self demanding artist
in Paris’s production for Songmerchants, is in the
strong, Brel-like, hands of Anthony Cable, a singer who
can reach the heart and the extremities of each number.
Stuart Barr’s fine arrangements are key components
in this tremendous show. - Reviews Gate
